Sustainable Food & Farming
In December 2002 Defra published the Government's Strategy for Sustainable Farming & Food. The Strategy set out the Government's vision for the future for the farming and food industries. It charged regions with developing the national framework into regional implementation plans that deliver real change at a local level.
The Farming and Food Team is a joint venture between the Government Office and Advantage West Midlands. It was set up in May 2003, in response to the national Strategy.
Advantage West Midlands developed the Regional Food and Drink Cluster Strategy, which sets out a vision for the food and drink industry in the region. It was followed by a regional Delivery Plan: this seeks to take forward the proposals of the Regional Food and Drink Cluster Strategy, together with the elements of the national Strategy that can be delivered regionally.
